Joni Mitchell To Release Early Coffee Shop Performance Recorded By Jimi Hendrix

Joni Mitchell is set to release a recording of one of her earlier shows recorded by legendary artist, Jimi Hendrix.

Before Joni released her debut album ‘Song To A Seagull’ the singer performed at Ottawa’s Le Hibou Coffee House near Capitol Theatre where Hendrix was performing.

Hendrix showed up at her performance with a reel-to-reel recorder and asked if he could record her show, a young Joni said yes and basically spent the evening “playing for him,” as he sat on the floor in front of her.

Hendrix noted the recording in his diary, however, the tapes were stolen and thought to be missing for years before they surfaced within a private collection that was donated to the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and returned to Mitchell.
